The FAIRTRADE seal stands for fair production and trade, with the aim of improving living and working conditions for smallholders in producing countries. This includes paying farmers a minimum price and bonuses to be used for specific projects. The farming families and plantation workers decide together what the bonuses should be used for, but in general they are invested in social, environmental or economic projects in the region. The FAIRTRADE minimum price also aims to ensure that local producers are able to cover the costs associated with sustainable farming practices. These minimum prices and bonuses are adjusted in line with prevailing global market conditions at regular intervals and within a strictly defined framework.
A particular feature of FAIRTRADE certification is that every ingredient and component of a FAIRTRADE product must be certified in order for the end product to bear the FAIRTRADE seal.
TransFair e.V., the organisation behind the FAIRTRADE seal, stands for reliability, integrity, engaged action and behaviour, humanity and community spirit. The FAIRTRADE team live these values and many others each and every day.
