Tea: Black, Green, or White? What's the Difference?
Each type of tea comes from the same plant, the Camellia Sinensis, but the manner in which the leaves are processed create the distinctive blends. For instance, new buds and younger leaves are steamed, or sometimes fried, to nullify oxidation before being dried to create white flavours. Similarly, green blends are created by steaming and rolling the dried leaves. Black blends are created through an entirely different process. Instead of going through the steaming process, the leaves are fermented or oxidised until they're ready to be dried.
Why do People Choose Fruit and Herbal Teas?
Fruit and herbal blends are chosen for their soothing effects. In most cases, these flavours are offered as caffeine-free products and instead contain restorative properties. In addition to helping people relax and sleep better, these types of blends can ease the symptoms of the common cold, reduce feelings of nausea, regulate blood sugar levels and act as an anti-inflammatory drink. Fruit and herbal blends have also been known to reduce stress and alleviating tension.
